Lithoz chosen as top spin-off in Austria by Spin-off Austria Initiative

- Lithoz GmbH, world leaders in ceramic 3D printing, has been chosen by the “Spinoff Austria Initiative” as one of Austria’s top 5 university spin-offs

- The initiative, which aims to encourage entrepreneurship in university students, asked over 50 Austrian universities to take part with their top spin-off businesses

- Lithoz, nominated by the TU Wien and celebrating their tenth anniversary, has successfully developed from spin-off to global market leader

Among a list of successful spin-offs from Austrian universities, Lithoz GmbH has been named as one of the top five companies by the Spin-off Austria Initiative. The initiative, which uses data contributed by universities, universities of applied science and other top institutions, aims to create a comprehensive database of spin-offs for the purpose of tracking and promoting growth in entrepreneurship. Lithoz’s achievement of a top five place among these other significant companies highlights their success in the past ten years since their founding, as well as showcasing their influence on the global market.

Lithoz, who is this year celebrating the ten-year anniversary of its founding, was created as a spinoff from the TU Wien by two students, Dr. Johannes Benedikt and Dr. Johannes Homa. Since then, the company has grown into a global leader with a range of industry-trusted ceramic 3D printers used for various applications, including medical, dental and industrial, and has also developed innovative ceramic 3D printing materials to suit different needs.

The Spin-off Austria Initiative, founded by renowned Austrian investors Hermann Hauser and Herbert Gartner, has the goal of raising awareness that, alongside teaching and research, Austrian universities must make entrepreneurship a third vital mission. Hermann Hauser describes the initiative as having the goal to ‘promote an Austrian ecosystem’ and encourage ‘the creation of 1000 spin-offs by 2030.’

Lithoz is the world and technology leader for high-performance ceramic materials and 3D printers. Founded in 2011, Lithoz is committed to breaking the boundaries of ceramic production and supporting customers in expanding the manufacturing opportunities for the ceramic industry. The company has an export share of almost 100%, more than 100 employees and, since 2017, a subsidiary in the USA. Since 2016, Lithoz has also been ISO 9001-2015 certified.

The Spin-off Austria Initiative has been designed for the long term and is a platform for all stakeholders who want to promote more entrepreneurship at Austrian universities. The initiators, Hermann Hauser and Herbert Gartner, organize the annual Spin-off Austria Conference and will publish the Spin-off Dashboard Austria (SODA21) with the current developments of the spin-off ecosystem from 2021. The Spin-off Austria Conference is sponsored by AVL, BDO Austria, Erste Bank und Sparkasse, hba Rechtsanwälte, Industriellenvereinigung, Merkur Versicherung and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
