MedUni Vienna names Erhard Busek and Hubert Pehamberger Honorary Senators

Ernst Singer and Ingwald Strasser named Honorary Citizens in recognition of their services

At a festive ceremony, the Medical University of Vienna bestowed the title of Honorary Senators upon Erhard Busek and Hubert Pehamberger and the title of Honorary Citizens upon Ernst Singer and Ingwald Strasser. The four award-winners were being honoured for their outstanding services to the University.

Erhard Busek, formerly Vice-Chancellor and Science Minister, served as Chairman of the University Council of MedUni Vienna from 2008 until 2018. Hubert Pehamberger was a member of MedUni Vienna's Constituent Assembly, a member of the Senate from 2004 until 2016 and Head of the Department of Dermatology from 2008 until 2016. In April 2016, he was appointed Medical Director of the Rudolfinerhaus clinic.

Ernst Singer was Chairman of MedUni Vienna's Ethics Committee from 2000 until 2016. Ingwald Strasser has served as a Works Council representative for MedUni Vienna medical staff since 2004 and Chairman from 2012 until 2014 and again since 2016.

"The outstanding people who have been honoured today have, in their various roles, made a huge contribution to the changes in the direction taken by MedUni Vienna. Changes in direction which have, amongst other things, raised our international profile and helped to improve the public perception of our university," says Rector Markus Müller, who presented the honorary titles in the presence of Science Minister Heinz Faßmann and numerous other well-known personalities from the worlds of politics, science and medicine.
