Vienna is a dynamic metropolis with the highest quality of life, where new innovations are constantly emerging. In order to be able to offer people in the city a first-class living environment in the face of climate crisis, technological and demographic change and urbanization, Vienna is striving to improve all the time. New knowledge is taken up and lessons are learned from the experience of other regions. Proactive economic and innovation policy making plays a central role for the city's international competitiveness. The Vienna Economic and Innovation Strategy VIENNA 2030 is an important element for shaping framework conditions and strategic actions. It focuses on a sustainable and competitive economy that meets today’s and tomorrow’s challenges by promoting innovation and is contributing to social, ecological and economic sustainability.
Flagship projects in central fields of action to advance areas of leadership
Vienna is developing six key topics along ten fields of action by 2030. The City of Vienna developed this strategy in 2019 on behalf of City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke together with companies, social partners and academia. The top areas of leadership are based on Vienna's existing strengths. These topics are:
- Smart solutions for life in the 21st century city
- Vienna as a metropolis of health
- Digitalisation, Vienna-style
- Smart production in the big city
- A place of international encounter
- Vienna – a metropolis of culture and creativity
To strengthen the quality of the location, activities are being implemented in the fields of education, labor market and top talent, universities and research, climate protection and adaptation to climate change, Vienna's infrastructure, innovative municipal administration, innovative milieu, regulatory framework, subsidy structures, and location marketing. Flagship projects have been systematically developed and implemented with broad participation. In 2024, LISAvienna will present a selection of these projects – our focus is on Vienna as a metropolis of health.
Regular coordination and development meetings, monitoring and evaluations accompany the strategy implementation processes – a fixed starter in the program is the Vienna Innovation Conference.
