LISAvienna: Medica 2014

LISAvienna was represented again at this year's Medica and Compamed trade fair in Düsseldorf. This - the largest medical technology trade fair in the world, featuring more than 5,555 exhibitors from more than 70 countries - attracted 130,000 visitors over four days. A total of 15 companies from Vienna exhibited at the fair.

LISAvienna attended the Medica trade fair as the main contact for questions about Life Sciences Vienna and to hold intensive discussions with companies based in Vienna. An additional goal was to gain a better understanding of international trends to tailor the development of LISAvienna's future service offerings.

A large variety of products is traditionally on offer at Medica and everything from simple medical supplies to complex CT scanners were on display. This year, there was a marked trend in wearable devices and health tracking systems.

However, more than just a wide range of products was on offer. A comprehensive program of lectures and podium discussions were held in six different forums across all four days. Companies from Vienna also presented their expertise to international visitors in the lectures: Martin Tiani, the founder of Tiani Spirit, gave a lecture titled “From epSOS to Health Information Exchange” at the Connected Healthcare Forum. Frank Westermann, the founder of mySugr, spoke about health insurance apps in “Connected mHealth App Elite: What is the Value of Connecting to Healthcare Apps, Sensors and API Aggregators”, as part of a series of lectures.

The traditional LISAvienna dinner and networking event took place at the Restaurant Lido in the Düsseldorf Medienhafen on the first evening of the trade fair. Over a good meal, 45 actors from the Austrian life sciences sector talked until the early hours of the morning and used the evening event as an opportunity to share experiences and network.

Next year's Medica trade fair takes place from November 16 - 19. For the first time, the show will be held from Monday to Thursday to better meet the needs of trade professionals.
