LISAvienna Business Meeting: Find and convince investors in the medical technology industry

On 29 April 2015, a LISAvienna business seminar offered a prime opportunity to become familiar with the processes around partnering conferences, investor pitchings and alternative financing options. Around 40 interested parties attended the event.

From 10-11 June, the IN3 EuroMedTech, Europe's largest partnering and investor conference in the medical technology sector, will take place in Vienna. Florian Binder, country manager of Austria at CONDA, presented Austria's most successful crowd-investing platform. The opportunities for companies and investors were explained and the unique advantages of crowd-investing were illustrated, such as the marketing factor. Binder gave valuable insights into the individual steps, from introducing the idea to marketing the project to completing the financing and the associated payments.

Simon Englhart, EBD Group was responsible for last year's EuroMedtech in Linz and is now preparing for Medtech Japan. He showed the advantages of the online partnering system of the EBD Group and which strategies lead to a successful meeting. In the process, he underlined how important a customized, personalized inquiry is and clarified why general inquiries rarely lead to successful meetings.

Ludwig Gold, CEO at Miracor Medical Systems GmbH, shared his experiences from over 100 investor pitchings. The detailed preparation of each investor meeting is an important aspect that should not be underestimated. This includes researching important statistics just as much as looking at the CVs of everyone involved. In addition, Gold summarized for the seminar participants those aspects that may not be missing from any pitch.

Laurenz Simbruner, investment manager at aws Gründerfonds, highlighted aws Gründerfonds from the investor side after Gold had previously presented his corporate side of these funds. It was shown here that many inquiries already fail due to poor preparation and due to unanswered questions in the business plan. The investments of aws Gründerfonds are technology-independent and with sums between EUR 100,000 and EUR 3 million are very interesting for innovative medical technology companies in particular.

Then the presenters discussed into the evening hours over snacks and drinks with the participants where and how to find the right investors.
