The Safe Vascular Access Needle (SVAN) is an innovative injection device for emergencies involving newborns and animals, addressing 1.4 million global cases annually. Supported by AWS Prototype Funding (2021) and FFG Spinoff Fellowship (2024), SVAN provides fast and reliable bone/ intraosseous access for life-saving medications within 90 seconds! It is designed for use by various professionals, including neonatologists, pediatricians, veterinarians, and emergency responders, as well as military personnel in crisis situations. This fully-automatic injection system features a unique patented technology of a safety stop and the smallest needle diameter (0.8 mm) to minimize long-term complications such as hematomas, leg amputations, and cerebral palsy. Moreover, its pinch-grip enables high depth precision with every injection.
The support from xbio and the FFG Spinoff Fellowship has been crucial for adapting SVAN for clinical trials and obtaining CE Mark compliance under the Medical Device Regulation in the near future. This initiative aims to enhance patient safety and survival rates and improve medical training.
