The Austrian healthcare group VAMED may again refer to new record order volumes for 2016

The Austrian healthcare group VAMED may again refer to new record order volumes for 2016. Thanks to new key projects in the Austrian healthcare sector and major hospital projects in Europe, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and Latin America, VAMED’s project business orders for the first time reached a volume of ca. €2 billion. In 2016, sales of the globally leading healthcare service provider grew organically by 5 percent to €1.16 billion, while operating profit (EBIT) amounted to €69 million, up 8 percent against the previous period.

VAMED is in charge of key projects in the Austrian healthcare system

In 2016, VAMED was awarded the contract for the renovation and expansion of the University Hospital St. Poelten. The order volume amounts to €189 million, and 380 beds for inpatients, 85 day-care beds, as well as nine operating rooms will be completed by 2022. In Vienna, VAMED will build radiation therapy facilities for the treatment of cancer patients at the Hietzing Hospital and the Socio-Medical Center East to meet increasing demand, and assume operational management for 15 and 25 years, respectively.

Together with our partner, the Provincial Hospitals Salzburg operating company, VAMED was awarded a contract for a child rehabilitation facility in St. Veit/Pongau. With 82 beds, this will be Austria’s first family-oriented center for the rehabilitation of children and youngsters after cancer and metabolic disorders. VAMED is Austria’s leading private provider of rehabilitation services and currently operates 15 facilities in Austria, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.

Successful completion of Charité Berlin - entry into the British rehabilitation market

The successful extension and renovation of Germany's largest university hospital, Charité Berlin, without exceeding costs or deadlines (project volume: €175m, completion in Nov. 2016), was VAMED’s most important international reference project last year. In Great Britain, VAMED’s acquisition of an interest in the British rehabilitation clinics operator Circle Health (London) marks the company’s entry into that market in Britain.

In Latin America, VAMED in 2016 received a first order from Bolivia for the construction of a 200-bed hospital. In Africa, in the north of Ghana, VAMED fully implemented a pioneering modular hospital concept to ensure comprehensive hospital care.  In Jendouba, Tunisia, VAMED received an order for an oncology center. In Laos, VAMED formally opened a new radiation therapy center and won a contract for the construction of a further district hospital.

Premium offers in preventive care expanded - new research in gender medicine

In the preventive care sector, VAMED opened the SILENT SPA in Laa an der Thaya/Lower Austria at the end of last year. This is Austria’s first Premium Day SPA Resort and constitutes a further enlargement of VAMED Vitality World’s offer in quality health tourism. Attracting more than 3.1 million guests a year at our eight Austrian thermal spa and health resorts and at Budapest’s largest thermal spa, VAMED Vitality World again gave impressive proof of its unchallenged market leadership in 2016.

In addition, VAMED is also intensifying medical research activities. In Gars am Kamp, where VAMED Vitality World has operated la pura women's health resort kamptal since 2011, Austria's first health resort with an exclusive focus on women's needs, VAMED founded the Research Institute for Gender Medicine together with  Medical University of Vienna. This is VAMED’s first facility exclusively dedicated to research and teaching.

Healthcare projects implemented in 79 countries worldwide - focus on services

VAMED has implemented more than 800 healthcare projects in 79 different countries on four continents, including 24 PPP models. In 2016, project business rose by 19% against the previous period to €1,961 million. For the first time, orders of a total value exceeding €1 billion were added in 2016.  As a technical service provider, VAMED is currently responsible for 600 healthcare facilities with a total of about 143,000 beds. VAMED has total operational management responsibilities for 52 facilities. In this context, VAMED employs more than 4,500 physicians, nursing specialists and therapists; their know-how has been networked in the "International Medical Board".

More than euro one billion value added in Austria

According to a paper published by the Department of Economics, Johannes Kepler University Linz, VAMED generates more than €1 billion indirect value per year only through the operation of rehabilitation and healthcare facilities in Austria. In addition, Austria’s economy benefits from VAMED’s international activities: about 2,000 Austrian SMEs receive orders from VAMED, which ensures their access to the global market. 

Improvement of all key corporate financial ratios – 170 additional jobs created in Austria

Taking into consideration all operations with regard to which the company has assumed overall responsibility, VAMED generated a total business volume of €1,626 million in 2016. VAMED AG’s consolidated sales grew organically by 5% to €1,160 million in 2016-this means that sales tripled in ten years. VAMED AG's operating profit (EBIT) increased by 8 % to €69million. At €67million, earnings before tax (EBT) was up 9 percent against the previous year. VAMED AG also expects sustainable growth for 2017.

In 2016, VAMED’s total number of staff has again increased by a total of 200 to 17,400 approx. Only in Austria, VAMED created 170 additional jobs, employing currently ca. 6,000 Austrian staff.
