piur imaging launches Remote Expert service

Remote image analysis of tomographic ultrasound volumes to perform clinical studies more efficiently

piur imaging has launched its remote image analysis platform, called PIUR Remote Expert, for research users. The platform will provide researchers and pharmaceutical and medical device companies a new method to implement clinical studies more efficiently with 3D tomographic ultrasound. The platform is based on PIUR´s tomographic imaging solution, PIUR tUS Infinity, that provides 3D imaging capabilities from any standard ultrasound system, independent of the ultrasound manufacturer. High-resolution tomographic ultrasound scans can be submitted to the cloud-platform Remote Expert where artificial intelligence is used to automatically quantify the submitted scan. PIUR´s ultrasound specialists will verify the results, make adjustments if necessary, and approve the final outcome before it is sent back to the user, together with a report.

“Our new Remote Expert service will help our customers to reduce time to market for new products and methods by minimizing the time required to collect clinical data”, says Frederik Bender, CEO of piur imaging. “Combining ultrasound-based 3D imaging with remote analysis minimizes the required budget and human resources. Tomographic ultrasound scans can be acquired in seconds and the user does not need to worry about cumbersome data analysis afterwards; this will be done by our algorithms and specialists. An AI based approach to disease quantification from 3D ultrasound will remove the human performance bias making data more reproducible and reliable.”

The Remote Expert service will initially include carotid plaque volume (CPV) quantification, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) volume measurements, and TI-RADS classification of thyroid nodules. CPV quantification and AAA volume measurements may be useful for those researching prevention of stroke and cardiovascular events, in addition to new drug and medical device efficacy. The latter application aims to objectify thyroid nodule classification in order to reduce existing uncertainties of current diagnostic methods.
