ALEX, the world's most comprehensive molecular blood allergy test, was previously marketed by the manufacturer MADx via a distribution partner. Since the end of May 2025, MADx has been coordinating all sales and service activities itself and maintains a local team in the UK.
The move marks a strategic decision. "The United Kingdom is a key market for us with great growth potential - especially because many patients there have not yet had access to comprehensive, precise allergy diagnostics," explains CEO Dr Christian Harwanegg. "With direct market access, we want to help improve diagnostic care and thus significantly improve people's quality of life in the long term. At the same time, we can provide our customers with more intensive support and utilise our scientific expertise in the field of allergy diagnostics locally.
MADx products are already in use in several renowned UK institutions, including Cambridge Clinical Laboratories, the University Hospitals of Wales and Sussex and the London Clinic. In future, the company not only wants to supply diagnostic products, but also set new standards in customer service with direct on-site support and advice.
The takeover of the UK market is part of a broader expansion strategy: MADx now also distributes directly in other European regions, including the Benelux countries and Scandinavia.
The market for molecular diagnostics is growing rapidly: according to forecasts, the global market volume is set to rise to over USD 47 billion by 2032. With its comprehensive diagnostic approach, MADx believes it is in the right position. The aim is to provide healthcare professionals with as complete a picture as possible of their patients' allergy situation - as the basis for a precise therapy recommendation.
