LISAvienna: MEDICA 2015

LISAvienna was represented again at this year's Medica and Compamed trade fair in Düsseldorf. There were some 5,000 exhibitors from 70 countries. 130,000 participants from 120 countries informed themselves about important new developments regarding medical devices. A total of 16 Viennese companies participated in the trade fair.

LISAvienna attended the Medica trade fair as the main contact for questions about life sciences in Vienna and to inform companies based in Vienna about upcoming funding opportunities. At the LISA lounge which has been organized in conjunction with other partners in the LISA network, participating companies were offered a comfortable meeting ground to get in touch with potential development partners, customers and investors in addition to classical exhibition space.

Products presented at Medica were as diverse as expected. Numerous new developments from the healthcare IT and mobile solutions area were showcased. For example, a life presentation of innovative hospital rooms provided hands-on insights into how patients will be able to move from one room to another using a tablet PC and a robot in the future. Healthcare apps also played an important role in terms of product novelties at Medica. The first ever 22-channel ECG system for smartphones and tablets were presented this year, for example. An additional show was dedicated to “wearable technologies,” such as traditional fitness trackers, but also novelties like intelligent patches. The latter allow you to collect data about core vital signs or to administer drugs in a minimally invasive way.

Discussion rounds, specialist forums, lecture series, and workshops were offered in addition to the trade fair. For the 24th time, COMPAMED, the internationally leading fair for supplies in the medical device industry, took place in connection with Medica. The focus was on technological solutions and services for the whole medical device value chain. The Vienna-based company Tiani “Spirit” GmbH participated with several stations at the “Connected Healthcare Forum” for the second year.

Next year's Medica takes place on November 14 to 17. As the new event days (Monday to Thursday) have been widely appreciated, the trade fair will stick to these days also in 2016. In case you are interested in participating in Medica, please feel free to discuss the best strategy for this endeavor with our technology expert Martin Mayer.
