Heinz Kölbl was awarded the prize, which was established 20 years ago, for outstanding services and for promoting Austria as a conference venue.
Every year, the Austrian Convention Bureau (ACB) honours organisers and industry representatives who have made a valuable contribution to promoting the Austrian congress and conference industry. ACB President Christian Mutschlechner presented the awards at Convention4u, held in the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt.
The native Viennese is Head of the Division of General Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, MedUni Vienna/Vienna General Hospital, and is a member or board member of numerous international gynaecological associations. It is down to his efforts and his international network that numerous international specialist conferences such as e.g. the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) Conference 2017, the largest of its kind in Europe, took place in Vienna. He is convinced of the importance of staging international events and promoting Vienna as an attractive centre of education in order to attract young people into the medical sector, thereby ensuring its future.
"He is one of our key ambassadors for winning international specialist conferences and is helping to build up Vienna's, and indeed Austria's, reputation as a first-class conference venue," said Susanne Baumann-Söllner, CEO of the Austria Center Vienna, in a statement explaining her reasons for nominating Heinz Kölbl for the prestigious Congress Award.
An award also went to Renate Dobler-Jerabek from Reed Messe Vienna.
