In ten days from now, the 12th MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run will take place on the Old General Hospital University Campus on Saturday, 6 October 2018. Anyone can join in – it's easy. For every completed lap of the flat circular course (= 1 mile) money will go directly to innovative cancer research projects at MedUni Vienna.
"Intensive research is the only answer to cancer," says Christoph Zielinski, Head of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of MedUni Vienna/Vienna General Hospital. "The money raised by the Cancer Research Run goes directly into projects looking at promising, innovative solutions to the current challenges in cancer research."For beginners and marathon runners alikeThe MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run is not about winning but about taking part and supporting a good cause. And the structure of the day reflects this: from 9:00 hours onwards you can collect a starting number for a minimum donation of €20. The circular course is open from 10:00 to 14:00 hours (1 mile = 1,609 m). You can start, stop or take a break whenever you like, fortify yourself at the refreshment booths and run as many laps as you can/want. Firms will also donate for every lap completed or will start their own teams. The previous eleven Cancer Research Runs raised a total of around €900,000 for research projects. 100% goes to researchEvery euro donated goes directly to cancer research, thanks largely to event partners ASKÖ-WAT Vienna and University of Vienna, as well as numerous sponsors. As recently as June 2018, ten projects were presented that were only able to start thanks to funding from donations. The selection was made by a jury of international experts from among more than 80 projects submitted.
