LISAvienna: MEDICA & COMPAMED 2017

This year, MEDICA & COMPAMED attracted 127,800 guests from 140 different countries to Düsseldorf with their exhibitions, which were distributed across 19 halls and five conferences. The developing nations of Asia were once again represented strongly. Amongst the exhibiting companies, which for the first time totaled more than 5,000, were 65 from Austria, 12 of which were from Vienna.

LISAvienna was present at MEDICA as an initial contact partner for questions concerning the life sciences city of Vienna. At the same time, the fair was also used as an opportunity for intensive exchange with the Viennese companies attending. In addition to the classic exhibition area, the LISA Lounge, which was organized together with other clusters in the LISA network, offered the companies a comfortable base for talks with potential development partners, customers, and investors. An unbelievably multifaceted product exhibition, which ranged from disposable gloves to fully automatic production facilities, formed the stage for these talks.

The following Viennese exhibitors were represented at the event:

  • Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH
  • Ing. Sumetzberger GmbH
  • Life Science Austria
  • LISAvienna
  • Lohmann & Rauscher GmbH
  • Mondi Consumer Packaging GmbH
  • Photonic Optische Geräte GmbH & Co. KG
  • SCHRACK SECONET AG
  • Sempermed
  • Technoclone GmbH
  • Tiani Spirit GmbH
  • VASEMA GmbH
  • ViennaLab Diagnostics GmbH

Tiani Spirit participated for the third time already with several stations at the “Connected Healthcare Forum”. In the Healthcare IT Hall 15, the trend was very apparent that it is important to ensure a seamless connection to IT infrastructure not only for IT-driven product groups, for example patient information systems, but that this also plays an increasingly major role in the case of other product groups.

This time at MEDICA, a hot topic were the new medical products regulations and the shrinking number of designated bodies in Europe  – a reduction from currently 80 to an expected 54 points of contact is reported. The new regulations will definitely be published in 2017, although the exact date has yet to be established. According to Wilma Hartung, Business Field Manager Medical Germany at TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH, there are still 500 inconsistencies in the current German version. You will find the documentations for the presentation on the topic of “New Medical Device Regulation (MDR)”, which were held as part of the MEDICA TECH Forums, in the download box to the right.

For the 25th time now, COMPAMED, the internationally leading specialist supplier fair for medical technology, also took place in connection with MEDICA. COMPAMED demonstrated once again the broad spectrum that the fair attempts to cover. The focus this time was on technological solutions for the production of medical products and services for the entire medical technology value chain.

You will find extensive background reports, interviews and videos on the organizer's website.

In the coming year, MEDICA will take place from November 13 -16; the registration period ends on March 1, 2017. If you are considering participation as a Viennese company or research facility, please contact our technology expert Martin Mayer in order to benefit from his experience with the event. Choosing the appropriate strategy is essential to the success of your presence at the fair. Please also keep in mind that accommodation in Düsseldorf can be in short supply and it is worth booking as early as possible.
