Agfa HealthCare & Kreiskliniken Esslingen to win GS1 Healthcare Award for Secure Medication

Members of a delegation from Kreiskliniken Esslingen and Agfa HealthCare have been presented with the GS1 healthcare award 2016 for best cooperation. Both partners won the award for a project that establishes secure medication in the hospital.

“We are very happy with the award”, says Michael Strüter, sales manager and CEO of Agfa HealthCare DACH. “We are confident to have solved a long standing problem in hospitals – a secure, clear and distinct medication process for patients.”

Kreiskliniken Esslingen chose to use barcode wristbands for patients and medicament containers that are also unified with a barcode. Together with a uique identification badge for employees, the system forms a secure and closed chain. By using barcode identifiers, the partners make sure that all patient medication is secure and clear as well as transparent. The whole chain of medication is monitored and documented in ORBIS, Agfa HealthCares hospital information system.

Kreiskliniken Esslingen plans to roll out the successful workflow throughout all wards.
