Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, and Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation will host the conference “EU Research and Innovation in our daily life” at the European Parliament. The event will be opened by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission and Heinz Faßmann, Minister of Education, Austria. The conference will bring together renowned researchers and politicians to reflect on past and present achievements of EU-funded research and innovation – and to debate the challenges still ahead. Speakers will discuss a variety of compelling topics such as health and wellbeing, sustainable environment, putting innovation on the market, as well as safe and secure society for all.
MycoSynVac is one of 16 successful H2020 research projects selected out of 230 EU-funded projects to be featured in the conference. MycoSynVac uses cutting-edge synthetic biology methods to engineer an effective vaccine against different Mycoplasma infections in farm animals. The creation and success of this vaccine will serve to not only improve animal health, curb losses in European agriculture, and reduce the amount of antibiotics used in farm animals, but also will have long term effects on human health. The project leader Prof. Luis Serrano, director of the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, will have the honor of presenting MycoSynVac and its current results as the very first project during the conference.
